Other:
Once upon a time...
There was a little fawn sleeping quietly in the cool grass. This little fawn had just been born, in a thicket in the wood. The warm breeze rustled the flame colored leaves in the trees, bringing the warm scent of the forest as it went by. The wet little fawn flicked its ears and tucked its fragile little limbs tighter underneath itself, trying to stay warm. Suddenly a twig snapped, and she became very alert. Her head popped up, and she tried to focus her ears in the direction the sound had come from. Her eyes darted around looking for something, but for what she did not know. There was no one there, and she was all alone.

As the seconds went by, fear began to fill every fiber in her little body. She began to shake with terror. She didn't know where she was, what she was, or what was happening. But she did know there was danger near by, and felt the gut wrenching need to run. She timidly tried to use her legs, but they shook so bad they were't much help. Out of the corner of her eye she saw something dart through the trees, just above her. She looked intently at the tree, but saw nothing. There came a little "Peep!", and her eyes found a little bird. It was a stunning blue, and it peered down at her with interest. It was very small and eye catching, but the little fawn didn't know what it was.

The little bird darted to a rock on the ground, just in front of the little fawn. "Hello!" the bird said in a friendly little voice. "What are you? I've never seen anything like you before..." the little bird commented as she peered about the fawn. The fawn backed away from the little bird, wondering what it was. "I... I don't know..." The little fawn said timidly. "You don't know? How can you not know?" the bird asked surprised. "Don't you have a mamma?" The little bird cocked its head curiously. "A what?" replied the fawn. The bird just looked at the fawn. "A mamma, that's someone who takes care of you. Who feeds you and teaches you. You have to have one somewhere..." The little bird looked around as if hoping to find the little fawns mother. "I'm all alone... I heard a noise in the woods, is something coming to eat me?" The little fawn asked the bird.

The bird giggled. "There's lots of noises in the woods! Not all of them are coming to eat you though. Well, since you mamma isn't around here, i can help to teach you stuff... If you want me to of course..." The bird suggested. "Okay," the fawn said, happy to have a friend who knew what to do. "Do you have a name?" the bird asked the fawn. "My name is Jexi." the bird said proudly. "I don't have a name," the little fawn said sadly. "Well then," said Jexi. "We shall give you one! Hmmm... You look like a Keny to me," Jexi said as she peered at the fawn. "Keny..." the fawn said tentatively. "I like it." she decided.

And so the Jexi spent the next two years helping and teaching Keny how to survive. They have lived alone together in their woods, making a few friends along the way. They've also spent that time trying to figure out what exactly Keny is, for Jexi knew that she was no ordinary deer. Now that Keny is two years old, will they finally figure out what she is?

This is one of my favorite fawnling pictures- the pose, the background, the water, the humming bird, the horns- everything. :)

It was a very good bid!
